6 Stellantis vehicles coming in 2024

Stellantis hosted a media day to introduce vehicles that will be joining their various brands this year and early next year. The organisation is marking their third year under the name Stellantis with 14 well-known brands under them, seven of which are available in South Africa. They have ‘big plans’ in store for the country as well.

New vehicles arriving soon

Jeep Wrangler

Jeep has a rich 80-year history and in 2024 a new Wrangler is coming that embodies their legacy of authenticity and freedom. The engine specifications will be upgraded to feature a 2-litre turbopetrol with a power output of 200 kW and 400 Nm. This also increases the towing capacity by 1 000kg.

Other additions include a new signature grille, a Gorilla Glass windshield, a 12.3’’ driver display, refined seat materials, modernised infotainment system and accessory rails. A video providing a sneak peek of the Wrangler showed a plug-in hybrid but it does not appear this variant will be available here soon.

Peugeot Landtrek

During the year a new single cab Landtrek will be introduced as well as a lower spec’d double cab. This makes the double cab more affordable. Each will now feature 6-speed manual gearboxes. The intention is make the Landtrek more accessible to those shopping for light commercial vehicles (excluding passenger vehicles). In this segment the largest demand is the D Pick-up accounting for 75,5% of sales.

Both variants have the same 1.9TD engine and various other specifications. The single cab has what Stellantis says is the largest load bay that can fit three Europallets. The vehicle on display did appear to have the largest load bay I have seen thus far.

The addition of these two variants will bring the total line-up to four variants. Both the single cab and the new double cab will fit in below the existing Allure and 4Action automatic double cabs.

Citroen C3 Aircross

Up to 60% of the vehicle market share belongs to sub-compact vehicles. In 2024, the new C3 Citroen Aircross will be introduced. The C3 Aircross will be well-priced and practical B-segment hatch. The new model introduces an automatic transmission to the line-up. There is also a 5-seater plus a 5-seater with an additional two seats.

The new C3 Aircross will be part of Citroen’s plan to reposition the brand to lead the under 400k market. Their C5 Aircross is also intended to be included in the below R400 000 strategy. This approach has already been taken by Citroen with the C3 which was proven relatively successful. Currently, it is over R600 000 thus the incoming derivative will likely be quite different.

The C3 Aircross will join the line-up of vehicles planned for this year but the C5 Aircross will only make a debut next year.

Opel Corsa

The Opel Corsa is expected to arrive by the end of this quarter. It will primarily be a facelifted version with engine specifications remaining a1.2 litre turbopetrol.

Fiat and Abarth 500e

Along with Abarth, the Fiat is entering the electric race this year. The Fiat Evergreen 500e hatchback is their new introduction in 2024.

My attention was drawn to the 5-minute fast charge option but this only provides approximately 48km. Thus, it is only a small percentage of its range (as can only be expected) but if you forgot to charge the night before or were unable to, due to a power outage, I think this will be quite handy to get to local destinations irrespective of mistakes or challenges.

Abarth is introducing a sportier, slightly faster variant. Drivers can expect upgrades to the style, technology, comfort and convenience, and safety along with the EV technology. Both the Fiat and Abarth will both be called the 500e and should arrive before the end of the year.

Stellantis confirmed plans to build a manufacturing plan in Coega in the Eastern Cape. Peugeot’s Landtrek PUP will be the first vehicle to be produced at the new Stellantis factory. This will be to serve 40% of the local market and 60% will be exported.

Thus from 2026, buyers of Stellantis will purchase cars that have most likely been manufactured here. The ultimate objective is to produce 90% of the vehicles in the market and assume the role of 8th largest OEM in South Africa.
