When are headlights necessary on public roads?
In terms of Regulation 159 of the National Road Traffic Act Regulations of 17 March 2000, the headlights are necessary for any person operating on a public road, a motor vehicle, other than a motorcycle, a motor tricycle with one wheel in front or trailer, unless it is equipped in front on each side of its longitudinal center-line with headlights capable of emitting a dipped-beam or main-beam.
Can we use any lamp for our vehicles?
No. Not all the lights are permissible on a vehicle operating on a public road. In terms of Regulation 337 of the National Road Traffic Act Regulations of 17 March 2000, no person shall use a lamp or lighting device in such a manner that the visibility of such lamp or lighting device from a public road, endangers public safety.
What is the required distance visibility of lights on cars?
In terms of Regulation 158 of the National Road Traffic Act Regulations, every lamp required to be fitted or to be used in terms of any of these regulations shall emit a light of sufficient brilliance to be visible from a distance of at least 150 metres to a person of normal eyesight
