Lose your COVID stone for road safety

Lose your COVID stone for road safety
May 6, 2021 by MasterTorque

COVID-19 taught South Africans many important lessons. Amongst these are two key things. Firstly, humans love to move and as we move, we can transmit deadly viruses. Thus, we need to move in ethical ways which keep ourselves and others safe.

Secondly, when movement is constrained, we are more vulnerable to gaining weight. It has been estimated that the average weight gain during lockdown is a COVID stone or 6.4kg.

Consequently, a BackABuddy Campaign has been started to encourage and support people in losing the weight gained over the last year. The creator has set a goal to lose their own COVID stone and is calling on all to support this goal by donating to the Road Ethics Project (REP).

The vision of the REP is one of safe and ethical mobility for all. Just as COVID-19 transmission can be prevented through simple, known measures, so can road crashes. It is time to fix the ethical crisis of preventable deaths and injuries on South Africa’s roads.

Funds raised will help the REP create digital training, expanding the audiences it can reach – even during lockdowns. Follow this link, https://www.backabuddy.co.za/lose-a-covid-stone, to pledge your support and share on your social media pages to get as many people as possible to join this worthy cause.

About the Road Ethics Project

The REP focuses on ethical road use and moral responsibilities for road safety. It instils a Vision Zero approach to road deaths, especially in high-use transport modes like minibus taxis and scholar transport. It also popularises and trains people on the Safe System road safety paradigm.
