MasterDrive combats hunger this Mandela Day

MasterDrive combats hunger this Mandela Day
July 18, 2024 by Samantha Greathead

It has been 15 years since the launch of 67 minutes for Mandela Day. Since then, countless lives were changed and commitment to supporting those in need in our communities has extended beyond the 67 minutes of one day of the year. MasterDrive is proud to be one of the organisations that participates in this worthy initiative over the years.

The theme of this years’ Mandela Day is ‘Combating poverty and inequality in our hands.’ MasterDrive committed to contributing food items and also help bridge the gap that not having access to this basic right creates.

Gauteng

Head office visited an organisation called Manger Care Centre. The CEO of MasterDrive. Eugene Herbert, says: “The organisation provides a home for those struggling to integrate into society for various reasons. It ensures each person has access to food, shelter, clothing and other essential amenities.

“MasterDrive contributed to the initiative by donating non-perishable food items which are then used to cook healthy meals for those living at the centre. A shocking 20 million people experience food insecurity in South Africa. It is organisations like the Manger Care Centre that make a dent in this number and MasterDrive is proud to support the organisation.”

Western Cape

In Cape Town, MasterDrive proudly supported the ‘Buy a Bed’ campaign. The General Manager of Western Cape, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal explains: “This is an ongoing initiative of the Haven Night Shelter in District Six. Corporate organisations and individuals can contribute a small amount to cover the cost of each bed that gives those experiencing homelessness a safe place to sleep at night.

“Along with the bed, individuals will also receive essential items. MasterDrive is honoured to be a part of the ‘Buy a Bed’ campaign. It is a special opportunity to help provide comfort and dignity to those in need. To echo the Why of our business – MasterDrive: driving change, one bed at a time,” says Nourse.

KwaZulu Natal

Ensuring we spread goodness far and wide, MasterDrive’s Durban office showed their support of operation Bobbi Bear. “This initiative helps in the education, recovery, support and upliftment of children affected by abuse. Prioritising and valuing the children of our nation was a project very close to Nelson Mandela’s heart and MasterDrive aims to play a role in continuing this legacy.

“Food and other items that the organisation needs to play this critical role in the lives of many children were delivered by the Durban branch of MasterDrive. It is always humbling to help children in need. We are appreciative to have had the chance this Mandela Day,” says Nourse.

MasterDrive values the opportunity to both honour Madiba’s legacy of compassion and service and also help combat the difficulties so many citizens face, particularly that of hunger. Together, as a country, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of our fellow South Africans.
