The MasterDrive Driver Search returns for the fourth time in 2026 and is already shaping up to be the most exciting year yet. With fresh developments and even bigger opportunities, the 2026 Driver Search is not just a competition – it is a once-in-a-lifetime launchpad.
For the first time in the initiative’s history, the Driver Search will select two winners – one male and one female – from a previously disadvantaged background, doubling the opportunity for young South Africans to step into the motorsport spotlight.
Legendary stage
MasterDrive is searching for two aspiring drivers, between 16 and 22, to earn the ultimate prize: the opportunity to compete at the 16th Simola Hillclimb, from 30 April to 3 May 2026. The CEO of MasterDrive, Eugene Herbert, says: “Simola Hillclimb is not just any race event – it is one of the most legendary international Hillclimbs.
“Simola holds the title of the fastest Hillclimb in the world. It is where talent meets pressure, speed meets precision, and careers are shaped. It is traditionally reserved for a select few which. for the past three years, MasterDrive Driver Search has enabled access to for exceptional young drivers, opening doors that would usually stay closed.”
This year, we are encouraging female drivers to enter, consequently, doubling the opportunity. “The Driver Search demonstrates our commitment to transformation and inclusion in South African motorsport.
“Since launching in 2023, MasterDrive Driver Search has become a means for identifying and developing motorsport talent – especially among youth from previously disadvantaged backgrounds with passion and potential, but not the funding or traditional access to the sport,” says Herbert.
The MasterDrive Driver Search opportunity
The iconic 1.9km Simola Hillclimb attracts top-tier drivers internationally. MasterDrive Coastal GM, Eugene ‘Gino’ Nourse, says: “The Driver Search places young talent right into that elite environment.
“MasterDrive Driver Search aligns with our commitment to skills development and youth empowerment. It provides exposure to the industry with professional training — an opportunity otherwise inaccessible to young South Africans.”
There are few, if any, other opportunities providing a similar foot in the door to motorsport. “The experience to compete at one of Africa’s most prestigious motorsport events is the chance to show what you are capable of with the right platform and support,” says Nourse.
