New Volvo EX60 Cross-Country coming soon

New Volvo EX60 Cross-Country coming soon
January 30, 2026 by Samantha Greathead

On the same day Volvo Cars reveals the all-electric Volvo EX60 to the world, it also provides a first look at the EX60 in another flavour as it introduces the newest entry in its popular line-up of cross-country models.

The EX60 Cross Country provides customers with all the benefits found in the EX60: class-leading electric range, fast charging, and state-of-the-art technology that makes life easier, safer, better and more enjoyable.

With this variant, however, Volvo Cars also brings its cross-country heritage into a new era of modern, electric Volvo cars. First introduced in 1997, all cross-country models come with a bold, distinctive design, a more robust and expressive look, culminating in a statement of freedom and exploration.

“The EX60 Cross Country is the EX60 for anyone with a ‘go anywhere’ attitude,” says Erik Severinson, Chief Commercial Officer, “Built to do more and see more, the EX60 Cross Country embodies not only the sense of exploration but also a reflection of achievement. We basically invented this segment, and we felt the EX60 was the perfect next Volvo to get the cross-country treatment.”

It comes with a new colour, called Frost Green, which is exclusive to this car and reflects the inspiration Volvo Cars designers find in Scandinavian nature. The EX60 Cross Country also carries several unique design details that emphasise its special place in the Volvo Cars line-up.

The EX60 Cross Country comes with special wheels that are exclusive to Cross Country models, as well as clear, well-considered cross-country branding in the front and rear bumpers, as well as on the D-pillar. Skid plates in brushed stainless steel at the front and back emphasise the car’s expressive look, while wider rugged wheel arches further enhance its overall presence.

However, the EX60 Cross Country is not just about looks. This being an SUV, it already provides the higher seating position that is appreciated by customers worldwide. It gives confidence, a better overview of the road ahead and enhances an overall sense of being in control.

On this car, Volvo Cars cranks up those benefits. Compared with the EX60, the Cross Country sits another 20 millimetres higher off the ground, which further boosts that visibility and sense of control. With the help of the air suspension, drivers can add another 20 millimetres of riding height if needed.

The air suspension can also lower the car, which enhances high-speed efficiency, stability and aerodynamics. This is especially helpful for drivers that travel on the highway and want to maximise the range of the battery.

Customers can choose between two all-wheel-drive powertrain options: a P10 AWD Electric with up to 640 km of range, which is the first variant to become available, followed shortly after by a P12 AWD Electric with longer range.

“South Africans have always had a strong connection to exploration and enjoying the freedom of the open road,” commented Grant Locke, Managing Director of Volvo Car South Africa. “The EX60 Cross Country builds on that spirit and will form part of the EX60’s available versions. It embodies the confidence and capability customers expect from a cross-country model, while staying true to Volvo’s commitment to sustainability. While local availability, specifications and powertrain options are still being evaluated, the EX60 Cross Country is designed to deliver the usability and versatility required for real-world adventures.”

*Availability of features and services mentioned above may differ between markets and variants.

*Range figures are preliminary and based on WLTP testing standards obtained under specific testing conditions for the Volvo EX60. Actual range can vary depending on charge level, car specification, outdoor temperature, battery temperature, weather, topography, driving style and car speed.
