Progress – despite COVID

Progress – despite COVID
August 19, 2021 by MasterTorque

August marks a year since MasterDrive started hosting their popular colloquiums. The eighth colloquium to take place since its inception was ‘Progress – despite COVID.’ The virtual colloquium provided encouraging information on the resilience of South African business in the face of great challenges.

The CEO of MasterDrive, Eugene Herbert, says the team has been gratified by the enthusiasm and excitement expressed by attendees. “The changes brought about by COVID-19 created the need for a new way to reach clients, create a sense of connection and share information that was invaluable to overcome challenges businesses were facing.

“The success of the colloquiums is an indication of MasterDrive’s own progress despite the challenges created by COVID-19. Even after COVID-19 is no longer a challenge, or at least becomes more manageable, the colloquiums will remain on MasterDrive’s agenda. A new way of connecting with clients has become an opportunity to share vital information for the success of companies and wellness and safety of employees.”

A number of other presenters provided perspectives on the topic as well. Barry Lottering the managing director at Gravity Training addressed practical ways to continue HSE training and upskilling despite new challenges.

Elvin Harris the president of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport South Africa (CILTSA) discussed the role that the industry played in ensuring the country continued functioning to reach the level we are at today.

Ericah Faranando, an executive financial advisor at Standard Bank, looked at the impact on the economy and the difficulties faced by many. She provided tips and advice on how individuals can best overcome these challenges and return to a pre-COVID-19 situation with their finances.

Roelof Viljoen is the national project manage at Business Against Crime South Africa. He, like MasterDrive, believes that not rectifying dangerous driving behaviour and providing the skills to navigate our roads is a crime and addressed when ignoring safety standards crosses this line.

Natasha Frank, a career development practitioner, looked at how careers and the achievement of career goals changed due to the pandemic. She provided a perspective on the progress made and how one can continue to develop their careers within this environment.

Many of the companies that were represented at the colloquium joined MasterDrive in making some of the best prizes and giveaway available yet. “Each company understands the importance of standing together for the continual upliftment of those who work in the industry. Your commitment to this is highly appreciated,” says Herbert.

These prizes included:

  • Fall Protection Plan Development Course from Gravity Training
  • Auto-Gymkhana courses with MasterDrive
  • MasterDrive eLearning courses
  • Virtual Hijack Management Courses with MasterDrive
  • 90-minute Career Consultation with Tash
  • MasterDrive Youth Driver Programme
  • Professional Diploma in Logistics and Transport with BIZZCO SupplyChainSmart
  • International Diploma in Logistics and Transport with Commerce Edge

We hope to see each person and many more at the next colloquium, “This is our annual Women with Drive event and is planned for 7 October 2021. More details will be sent soon, so keep an eye on your inbox,” says Herbert.
