With less than two weeks left of Transport Month, MasterDrive is urging both companies and individuals to take cognisance of what the month stands for. During the month of October MasterDrive held their annual Transport Month event that honours women in the industry and is yet to launch their TrackMaster programme. This year in particular, however, is one deserving of tribute for those working in the transport industry.
The CEO of MasterDrive, Eugene Herbert, says one of the biggest challenges faced by fleet operators at the moment is the high cost of fuel. “Current estimates are predicting fuel prices will hover around the R20 mark by December. Once operators exhaust all other means of reducing costs within fleets, they are forced to make provision for these high costs in other ways.
“Often the only way to cut costs is by increasing the price of their goods as well as facing their own reduction in profits. Consequently, MasterDrive believes it is important to acknowledge the challenges fleet operators are currently facing and appreciate the difficulties of this during Transport Month.”
Many in the transport industry deserve credit for the role played since the pandemic started. “The transport industry assumed one of the most important roles in the frontline of the pandemic which was ensuring the economy continued to operate and people received essential goods during a difficult time. This was while facing their own challenges including sick employees, increasing costs and all the other difficulties businesses faced during COVID-19.
“Many transport businesses not only managed to survive but did it quite successfully. Effort was put into reducing the effects on the consumer despite the rising fuel costs. This is a result of careful strategising and planning which is why we should be showing some appreciation for the transport industry this month.”
As Transport Month draws to a close, decide what you can do to play a role. “If you have not yet participated in a Transport Month initiative, look out for ways you can contribute or pay tribute to deserving organisations around the country this Transport Month. Even using your social media influence provides a way to show appreciation for the industry,” says Herbert.
