The very first ever BMW M Festival was held this past weekend at Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit. The event showcased the full range of BMW M series, from the M4 to the latest M SUV.
BMW put on a display of pop-up dealers. This proved to be a very popular concept to the those who visited the show. There were also a number of exciting activities from the opportunity to be driven around the racetrack by a professional driving instructor to a wide range of food trucks.
If you were one of the fortunate ones to be in possession of a VVIP ticket, not only could you be driven around the track but you could also drive one of the M series with a professional instructor by your side.
You could also enjoy live performances by South African artists. BMW went all out entertaining the crowd with a variety of radio personalities and artists. 947 took the opportunity to broadcast live throughout the BMW M Festival.

For me, the highlight of the festival was undoubtedly the ‘big race’. It comprised of a two wheel BMW (BMW 100 RR Superbike), the famous DTM racecar and their race production car. There were many opinions flying around about who was going to win the one lap show down. As the trio left the grid in a staggered formation all eyes were on the DTM to take victory.
As the trio entered the last corner the roar of the DTM could already be heard before the crowd got sight of the vehicles. The placing was as follows: the DTM in first place, then the BMW super bike which just managed to get second place as it crossed the line.
As the race finished there was a loud thunder bang similar to the noise the race cars had been mking all day. Seconds later the rain came down. This, however, didn’t deter the crowd with many sticking around to enjoy the fantastic entertainment.
I look forward to the 2018 BMW M Festival being even bigger and better.
