One week left for a R250 000 life-changer

One week left for a R250 000 life-changer

The Fleet Safety Awards has evolved into a platform that not only recognises safety excellence but has substantial financial rewards that can change lives. With R250 000 in total prize money in 2025, the Awards offer both recognition and financial benefits for road safety commitment.

The CEO of MasterDrive, Eugene Herbert, says the objective is to grow the Awards’ potential to change lives each year. “Whether through career progression or the wealth of opportunities that significant cash prizes present, the Fleet Safety Awards has a multitude of benefits for winners.

“With just one week left to enter, now is the time to compete to become a Fleet Safety Awards’ Champion. With a wide variety of categories, there is an opportunity for every fleet professional,” says Herbert.

Cash prizes are divided between the categories:

  • Best Fleet Manager leads with an impressive R90 000 cash prize, recognising visionary leaders advancing safety procedures while fostering innovation. This substantial reward reflects the critical role these professionals play in shaping industry standards and protecting lives on our roads.
  • The Road Warrior category acknowledges professional drivers with R45 000 in cash prizes. This category grew remarkably, increasing by over 400% since the inaugural awards, demonstrating the commitment to recognising frontline safety champions.

Beyond individual recognition

The Awards extend their impact beyond individual achievement. “Organisations are rewarded with cash prizes that benefit the broader industry. This direct investment approach guarantees that award success benefits the entire transport ecosystem,” says Herbert.

  • The Best Organisation receives R20 000 to donate to a CSI initiative. Businesses can reinvest their success into community development, ideally within the mobility sector.
  • The Most Improved Truck Stop category awards R20 000 towards facility improvement projects. This ensures their recognition translates into further tangible enhancements for truck driver safety and wellbeing.

Two new categories prioritise sustainability and the benefits it presents to furthering road safety:

  • The cash prize of the Sustainability Leadership Award is R20 000 which is contributed towards implementing sustainability initiatives that amplify environmental impact along with road safety initiatives.
  • The Sustainability Innovation Award recognises innovation from suppliers providing products and services that enable other businesses to achieve their sustainability goals.

Specialised bus industry recognition

The bus sector can enter dedicated categories. As a relatively new initiative these categories are still gathering momentum. Like the other categories, their growth will soon result in just as significant cash prizes:

  • SABOA Best Fleet Manager: R20 000 for the winning manager who demonstrates exceptional leadership in bus fleet safety management.
  • SABOA Best Organisation: is awarded to a business that successfully integrates comprehensive road safety strategies into their organisational culture.
  • The SABOA Road Warrior winner will receive R10 000 for being a bus operator with a commendable approach to unique safety challenges and achievements.

From humble beginnings with just R10 000 in total cash prizes during the inaugural year, the cash prizes of the Fleet Safety Awards now have a cumulative total of R250 000: a five-fold increase over four years. “It reflects not only the Awards’ success but the industry’s recognition that road safety excellence and those that prioritise it deserve substantial reward.

“The Fleet Safety Awards is not only about recognition – it is an opportunity for career acceleration, life transformation, and industry enhancement, proving that when safety excellence meets significant rewards, everyone benefits,” Herbert concludes.
